As you may have noticed, building works have begun on Drummond Street in the first phase of the $541.6 million, five-year redevelopment of the Ballarat Base Hospital. The first stage, currently underway, is the construction of the new Central Energy Plant. Once completed, the upgraded hospital will have the capacity to treat at least 18,000 more emergency patients, an extra 14,500 inpatients and 4,000 more surgeries per year. The redevelopment includes a new emergency department, a women and children’s hub, state-of-the-art theatre suite and an extra 100 inpatient and short stay beds. A new and expanded critical care floor will bring together operating theatres, procedure rooms, an expanded intensive care unit, endoscopy suites and consulting rooms.

Recently, the new designs have been released for the main buildings. In addition to providing modern facilities and a comfortable and welcoming environment, there will also be more green spaces and easier navigation through the hospital. More information can be found here.
